A press render of the forthcoming Sony Xperia Z4 appears to have leaked online.

Sony didn't show up at MWC 2015 with its new Android flagship, leaving the spotlight to the Samsung Galaxy S6 and the HTC One M9.

But a steady trickle of information and rumour has kept anticipation for the successor to the Sony Xperia Z3 ticking over.

This latest leak comes courtesy of @OnLeaks. As you can see, the 3D render shows a smartphone that's strikingly similar to the Xperia Z3. That's no surprise, as Sony has stuck to its design guns over several iterations of the Z series to date.

It does appear as if Sony has removed the microSD slot, however, suggesting that the company is set to anger Android die-hards by doing away with expandable storage. In other words, it's 'doing a Samsung.'

Of course, it's always possible that Sony has incorporated the microSD slot elsewhere, so we'll hold off on that one for now.

Sony has also apparently shifted the microUSB port from its previous top edge position to a more traditionally accepted position on the bottom of the device. It's also removed the flap that covered the port on the Z3, though the Z4 is still expected to retain its high degree of water and dust resistance.

The Sony Xperia Z4 has recently been tipped for a September 2015 launch, which would mean a full one year gap from the Xperia Z3.

It's expected to feature a thinner chassis, a Snapdragon 810 CPU, and quite possibly a QHD display.
