BlackBerry Passport gold model leaks

An image of a gold BlackBerry Passport model has leaked onto the internet.

BlackBerry's latest smartphone oddity hasn't exactly proved a hit with the critics, with its odd (not to mention unwieldy) square shape and similarly squat 4.5-inch display. Somewhat critically for a BlackBerry, it also features an unusually awkward keyboard configuration.

Still, it's a well-specced device, and it certainly stands well apart from the legions of iClones and shapeless Android also-rans out there.

The Passport comes in porcelain white and piano black, but BlackBerry will be hoping that its new gold model will be enough to tempt more buyers in.

That's what numerous reports have suggested up to now, at least. And now, thanks to CrackBerry, we appear to have pictorial evidence of such a gold BlackBerry Passport's existence.

The website can't confirm whether this is an official BlackBerry model or a third party effort, but it certainly looks that way given the lack of further adornment or tagging. Whoever made this device, they have used the gold quite sparingly and - dare we say it - tastefully, with accents around the rim of a predominantly black device, rather than a full on bling explosion.

BlackBerry reckons that it sold around 200,000 BlackBerry Passports within its first few days on sale. Perhaps a quick turnaround on a gold model will give those sales an Apple-like boost.
