DriveClub release date will still come with free PlayStation Plus version

Sony has revealed that it still plans to release a free version of DriveClub for PlayStation Plus members.

Following the DriveClub release date confirmation for October 10, Sony says the free edition of the driving game is still in the works.

When DriveClub was originally announced, the developer stated that there would be a free, but slightly modified, version of the game offered to PlayStation Plus subscribers.

Despite the game’s repeated launch delay, it looks like Sony hasn’t abandoned those original plans, according to a Sony representative talking to CVG.

Back in July Sony outlined the differences between the free DriveClub and the full digital/physical edition of the game.

“Yes, the PS Plus version will be the exact same as the full version, except that it may be missing a few assets such as cars or tracks, that will be found in the full version. However the online multiplayer, the asynchronous challenges and the single player campaign will all be present in the PS Plus version”, said Sony in a Q&A session.

Sony’s aim when launching a free PlayStation Plus version is to ensure the game starts with a strong user base, which could be quite a clever move for the PS4 manufacturer.

“The PS Plus version gives us to the biggest open community, day one. This game is all about socialising.”

Of course, if you want those missing tracks or cars, Sony will offer an upgrade option between versions.

“You could download the full version and then decide that you want to convert this to the full digital version, then you can pay a sum of money and everything else will be delivered to you.”

DriveClub will launch exclusively for the PS4 on October 10 in the UK, a year after its initial delay just weeks before it was originally expected to be released.
