Xbox One August update detailed

Microsoft has detailed the Xbox One August update, revealing some of the new features coming to the latest console.

There have been a fair few major updates for the Xbox One since the console launched in November last year, and next month another one is on its way.

The Xbox One August update will bring a host of new features to the console, but one of the most important is mobile purchasing options.

Now you can remotely purchase games and DLC, add-on content for your Xbox One from Xbox.com or SmartGlass and have them start downloading straight away before you get home and can start playing.

It’ll be particularly useful for large files like the 12GB Destiny beta download, which will arrive for Xbox One later in July.

“No more waiting to begin downloading when you get home - if your console is set to automatically take updates, your console will begin downloading your purchase”, explains Xbox Live head Larry Hyrb.

You’ll need to have your Xbox One configured for Instant On and background updates for it to work, but when you do, your console will power on just enough to download and install that content.

Other useful incoming features include the ability to turn off notifications during game streaming, low battery level notifications for your controller, 3D Blu-ray support and an expanded Friends area for your Home screen.

The Activity Feed will also be given an update too, letting you like comments, post notes, share clips or other content directly into your feed, and even access all this from SmartGlass too.

“Coming next week, we will begin implementing some of the features you requested by rolling out the next Xbox One system update for folks who get early access. We’re looking forward to hearing feedback on features before we roll them out to all Xbox One consoles next month and beyond.”
