The Moto G 2 has been leaked with a brief specs outline, giving us a first look at what we can expect from the device.
Motorola’s original Moto G, which just got refreshed with 4G and a microSD slot, has been a fantastic success for the company.
The £160 phone is well-known for offering decent specs, a 720p HD display on a reasonable budget, and has been one of the company’s best-selling handsets.
Now, the Moto G successor has reared its head, with a purported specs bump and price drop to boot.
Apparently the Moto G 2 will still have a 1280 x 720p HD display, but there’s no word on whether it’ll retain the 4.5-inch size. Although the majority of phones have a full 1080p HD display, and the LG G3 has a stunning QHD 2560 x 1440p display, the 720p HD resolution will be a key factor in Motorola keeping the cost of the Moto G 2 down.
That 720p HD display will be running on an upgraded quad-core ARM V7 processor and offer an Adreno 305 GPU for graphics. The current Moto G has a 1.2GHz quad-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 400 processor (ARM A7) with 1GB of RAM.
There currently isn’t any information on the amount of RAM, battery size, or internal memory options for the Moto G 2.
However, the AndroidCommunity source did say it would have an 8-megapixel rear camera and offer dual-SIM functionality for selected regions.
As you can see in the image above, which was sent through along with the information on specs, the Moto G 2 looks very similar to its predecessor but seems to feature dual front-facing speakers.
The rumours suggest the Moto G 2 could arrive with a sub-$100 price tag (£60), but we'd be very suprised if it could get quite that cheap.
There’s no word on when Motorola will launch the Moto G 2, but seeing as the 4G Moto G was only launched in June here in the UK, we could be in for a little wait yet. Reports suggest it could be released around Christmas time or early 2015.
