Sony Xperia Z3 and Z3 Compact release date tipped for September

Latest reports tip the Sony Xperia Z3 and Xperia Z3 Compact for a September release date, not long after they are announced.

It hasn’t been that long since the Sony Xperia Z2 went on sale, but that hasn’t stopped rumours suggesting the Z3 and Z3 Compact are on their way.

Various reports tip that Sony will launch both new smartphones during its IFA 2014 presentation, but now we have some information as to when the duo will go on sale.

According to a leaked screenshot of the rules for a Vodafone Germany raffle, the Z3 and Z3 Compact will be available to buy in Europe before September 30.

The raffle is to win a trip to New York for the Black Friday shopping extravaganza, but the thing of interest to use is the listing for the Xperia Z3 and Z3 Compact down the bottom.

Vodafone’s raffle runs from July 1 to September 30, so as the pair of Xperia handsets are part of the raffle entry, they will have to go on sale before it ends.

That means the Z3 and Z3 Compact should go on sale very soon after their IFA announcement, which isn’t what happened with the Z2 at all.

The Xperia Z2 was announced during Sony’s MWC 2014 presentation in February, but didn’t actually go on sale until May 1 in the UK due to rumoured component manufacturing issues from a third party partner.

Rival HTC One M8 on the other hand went on sale immediately after it was announced, arriving so quickly that customers only had to wait a few days at most to get their hands on the new flagship.

The Xperia Z3 is expected not to offer much of an upgrade over the current Z2 flagship, perhaps apart from a slightly slimmer body.

The Z3 Compact on the other hand, seems to be quite an enhancement on the already impressive Sony Xperia Z1 Compact.

It is tipped to feature a 4.5-inch 720p HD display running on the same quad-core Snapdragon 801 processor and 2GB of RAM as flagships like the Z2, Samsung Galaxy S5 and LG G3.
