OnePlus One to get Android L

OnePlus has confirmed that its first smartphone, the OnePlus One, will be getting the Android L upgrade.

Since it was launched earlier this year, the OnePlus One has stirred up a storm. It’s one of the most exciting phones we’ve seen this year and it is about to get even more exciting.

Similar to the plans HTC has outlined for the HTC One M8, OnePlus One has guaranteed that the newly announced Android L will come to the OnePlus One as soon as possible.

“So a lot – I mean, a lot – of people are asking about whether we’ll be getting on the Android L train. It was announced while I was asleep and when I got back to work the morning after, there were already a bunch of forum posts and (strangely) customer support requests about it.”

“We’re keen to announce today that the OnePlus One will indeed be getting the L treatment. When, you ask? That depends on Google. We promise to have it done within three months of their releasing a final build,” came the official statement.

If that information is accurate, you could be seeing the OnePlus One getting Android L a lot quicker than other leading Android smartphones on the market.

Of course, the OnePlus One doesn’t run on vanilla Android like the Google Nexus 5, but will use a new CyanogenMod build based on Android L.

Aside from HTC and Google itself, the majority of leading Android manufacturers including Samsung have yet to announced when and what devices will receive the latest Android OS announced at Google I/O last month.

Android L brings with it a new refreshed design known as “Material”, which uses block colours and shadows to create a layered, but beautifully simple Android OS with a strong focus on continuity across platforms.
