The iPad mini 2 release date is reportedly facing delays, with supply chain sources hinting that the new 7.9-inch Retina display is said to be suffering from screen burn issues.
Although Apple has to date stated only that the iPad mini 2 release would be held “later in November,” it has been suggested that the second-generation tablet was originally intended to go on sale alongside the iPad Air on November 1 before being hit by delays.
With recent reports suggesting Apple has been forced to turn to Samsung for additional iPad mini 2 panels, news outlets in Korea have now claimed that the original Sharp manufacturer displays have been plagued by burn-in issues.
Although the burn issues are said to not be visible to the average user, it is reported that the panels have not been able to meet Apple’s high test standards.
According to the industry insiders: “Apple is delaying its launch because it could not solve the burn-in problem in the LCD panel, to be applied to the iPad mini retina product, which is caused by the malfunction of the TFT.”
The sources added: “If the burn-in problem is not solved, Apple will be in a fix. If Apple relaxes the technological standards for the burn-in, consumers’ perception of Apple may deteriorate, and if not, it will have to change its supply chain and delay the launch of the new product.”
The iPad mini was officially unveiled last month, with the new Retina display one of the second-generation tablet’s biggest improvements.
Further iPad mini 2 features include the addition of the same 64-bit A7 processor as the iPhone 5S and the company’s recently launched iOS 7 mobile operating system.
