Nike+ FuelBand with Bluetooth 4.0 and heart rate monitor in production

Nike is expected to release its latest next-generation Nike FuelBand with the addition of Bluetooth 4.0 and a heart rate monitor.

Bluetooth 4.0 has been added to the latest Nike FuelBand in order to improve its battery life and syncing. Users will also be able to check the fitness gadget’s battery life directly from the device itself.

There will also be a number of new additions that have been developed in order to overcome problems encountered with the first Nike FuelBand and also to enhance its usage.

Other new features for the Nike FuelBand will include a heart rate/pulse monitor, certainly a welcome addition for fitness fanatics. Users will be able to scroll through the options until the heart rate monitor is selected, then pinch the screen to take their pulse and check their heart rate.

The new Nike FuelBand will also feature a faster data display and programmers will have the ability to access real-time accelerometer data in their apps through an API which is said to be greatly improved.

Improvements to the interface will also be introduced, including faster LEDs for a more responsive read-out on the device.

In addition to this the Nike FuelBand Android app is said to be currently being developed, despite Nike denying such an app was in production in the past.

The Nike FuelBand is reportedly being tested by Nike employees and as of yet there is no news on when it will be released to the public.

However, with fitness tech like the Fitbit Flex now encroaching upon Nike Fuelband territory, Nike will want to get their next-gen sports band out as quickly as possible.

For the swimmers out there, there's always the Garmin Swim.
