Google Glass centric retail stores to launch?

Google Glass themed retail stores could be set to launch as Google looks to give potential customers the opportunity to sample the head-mounted technology.

A move that would see the search-turn-Android-turn hardware giant step on the toes of bitter rival Apple, a company that has become known for its premium retail outlets, latest reports have hinted that Google could launch Google Glass themed outlets in parallel with its futuristic eyewear.

Speaking with Business Insider, an unnamed tipster reportedly revealed that Google is plotting a selection of high-end retail establishments, all tasked with bringing the company’s internet-connected, heads-up display producing Google Glass technology to the masses.

“Our source tells us he knows someone that is working at Google to develop the Glass stores,” the reports stated. “This person apparently meets with Sergey Brin to plot out the stores.”

They added: “These Glass stores would put the Glass brand front and centre. They would help customers get set up with Glass.”

While the notion of a Google branded retail outlet is far from new, previous reports suggesting Google was set to follow Apple and Microsoft into the physical store front market had claimed the company would tout the full range of its wares, from Android based smartphones and tablets to Chromebooks and more.

Arguably one of the most interesting products currently on the fringes of the tech scene, Google Glass are a pair of tech brimmed eyewear which are set to bring a selection of Google and app based features to user’s eyes wherever they are.

Featuring an inbuilt camera, the smart specs will allow users to capture snaps and video clips and well as received heads-up calendar and location-based reminders.

Google has suggested that following further development, Google Glass could integrate social networking tools, allowing users to see where friends are as well as received augmented reality style navigation from Google Maps. It is believed that much of next week’s Google I/O conference will focus on Google Glass development.
