Apple drops Fitbit product line-up from online store

Apple has finally given Fitbit wares the thumbs-down on its web store following earlier rumours of an imminent shut out.

Last month, it was reported that Apple would be annexing the Fitbit Flex and its wearable cohort, although it would be keeping some competitor products on like the Nike FuelBand and the Jawbone UP24.

It seems Apple has followed through on the chatter – a quick search for ‘fitbit’ on Apple’s online store turns up zilch.

So why has one of the most well-known fitness tracker firms been kicked out by Apple? Well it turns out that Fitbit was marked for the kill Cupertino HQ last month after declining to integrate Apple Health.

Fitbit publicly refused to offer support for Apple’s new health-focused tracking platform, saying it wanted to work on ‘other exciting projects.’

Fitbit’s CEO and co-founder James Part has since released a statement in response to Apple’s cold-shoulder:

“As the number one selling connected device with 69% year-to-date 2014 market sahre, Fitbit is currently sold in 46 countries and in over 37,000 retail stores, including Amazon, AT&T, Best Buy, Bloomingdales, Brookstone, Dick’s Sporting Goods, Kohls, Microsoft Store, Nordstrom, REI, Target, The Sports Authority, Tory Burch, Verizon, and Walmart.”

He continued: “Fitbit looks forward to a robust holiday season as the connected health and fitness category continues its rapid growth.

Aside from the Health Kit snub, there’s also a chance Fitbit could have been dropped for conflicting with the fast-approaching Apple Watch.
